We accept creative nonfiction on a variety of subjects and in multiple forms. Please submit one piece of nonfiction for consideration, not to exceed roughly 7 - 10 double spaced pages. We encourage students to review the nonfiction in our most recent issue before submitting (available online here: https://issuu.com/oaklandartsreview/docs/oar_vol._4_2019) to see if our journal might be the right place for your work.

Excerpts of longer works, including book length memoirs, are acceptable if the excerpt is also successful as a stand-alone piece, and we welcome work that is highly experimental in content and / or form.

Simultaneous submissions are fine, but we do ask that you let us know in your cover letter if the pieces are going to other journals, and of course let us know straightaway if something has been taking by another magazine.

Finally, our editorial class meets in the fall semester, and we accept work year round. That means that anything submitted outside the months of September - December is likely to get a slower response. But we still want to see your work!
